Tottenham have become the first Premier League team to launch on the Chinese video platform, Douyin. The app, which has over 100 million registered users and receives over one billion video views daily, will help connect and engage Spurs fans in China. Currently Spurs have nearly 45 million fans in China, with a large presence on Weibo and WeChat.
Douyin was the sixth most downloaded app in the world, during the first quarter of 2018, and was the most downloaded non-gaming app on iOS. 85% of Douyin’s users are under the age of 24, presenting a perfect opportunity for Tottenham to engage and attract new young Chinese fans.
Tottenham will use the partnership to upload skills, goals, behind-the-scenes footage and player interviews to the platform. Douyin allows users to upload 15-second clips, which will appear in people’s timelines using an algorithm designed to provide them with the content most relevant to their interests.
