The Premier League will trial VAR at 15 matches this season, starting after the international break. The Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL), the body responsible for match officials in English professional football, aim to prove that the system is fit for purpose with the intention of fully introducing it for next season.

VAR testing will take place simultaneously at all 3pm kick-offs on September 15th as league chiefs aim to prove that the single hub, in Stockley Park, of referees can deal with the workload of multiple matches.

The matches will be treated as a normal VAR game, however the assistants in the hub will not have any communication with the on-field referee. Therefore, the VAR test will operate as a real life simulation, without dictating actual on-field decisions.
