The NBA has become the first US sports league to sign betting data distribution deals by partnering with Sportradar and Genius Sports. The agreement will see the two data providers act as middlemen by using the NBA’s real-time data to generate in-game betting odds which can then be distributed to licensed sportsbooks in the States.
The deal, which also includes the Women’s NBA, Genius Sports and Sportradar will have the right to distribute the data on a non-exclusive basis; meaning the league can still sign similar agreements with other firms.
Genius Sports chief executive, Mark Locke, said: “We are world renowned for driving innovation in basketball sports betting and look forward to inspiring a more engaging betting experience for NBA fans.”
In July the NBA became the first US sports league to announce an official betting partnership, after a three-year deal was agreed with MGM for a reported $25m. Since signing, the NHL and MLB have both reached agreements with MGM. Read more here.
