The top-flight of US football, the MLS, is set to introduce shirt sleeve sponsorship ahead of next season; opening up new revenue streams for the 23 teams. Reports show that the potential deals could be worth anywhere between $500,000 - $1m per-year.
In contrast, Manchester United, who signed Kohler as their first sleeve sponsor in July earn an estimated £20m per-year.
Currently all MLS clubs are tied into a league-wide kit supplier deal with Adidas, which is contracted until 2023. Therefore, clubs are restricted when it comes to boosting revenue via other kit manufacturers. As a result, the introduction of sleeve sponsors will be a welcomed addition for all franchises, as wages also continue to rise throughout the league.
