David Beckham has revealed that his MLS franchise will be called Inter Miami. The announcement was made via social media where the clubs crest was also unveiled, which features two Herons – the local bird of Miami.
Inter Miami will be launched in 2020 and will enter the MLS at this point also. The social posts were accompanied with the caption “Four years ago, we dreamt of a soccer club. Today we’re proud to announce the official name and crest of our new team, Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami. Join us on a journey that has only just begun. THIS IS US. THIS IS MIAMI.”
A month ago, Inter Miami revealed their plans for Freedom Park – a 110-acre soccer village, where Inter Miami’s stadium will sit. As well as the stadium, the space will be home 23 acres of youth soccer pitches, a technology hub, bars, restaurants and shopping facilities. The club predict that 11,000 jobs will be created because of Freedom Park, which will be privately funded. Furthermore, they are predicting $40m in annual tax revenue, with $20m being donated to help the city.
The construction of Freedom Park will be included on a referendum in the upcoming ballot in south Florida in November.
