CBS Sports has launched a Google Assistant action aimed at fantasy sports players, using a voice-controlled app on Google devices. The action will help players to choose NFL players for their draft as they head into the season and whilst monetisation from voice activated devices is still a way off, CBS hope to grow engagement and build a loyal fanbase in the meantime.

CBS know the value of fantasy sports players, who on average visit CBS Sports’ website five times more often and view ten times more pages than non-fantasy players. The audience in the US and Canada has surpassed the 60 million mark, more than doubling the number of users over the past decade.

As the popularity of voice-controlled devices grows it will be interesting to see which other sports introduce specific apps for fans to use. The Premier League’s official fantasy football game currently has over five million players, so it might not be too long until players are able to make transfers via Amazon Echo or Google Assistant.
