The Premier League has become the first European football league to launch an official app, exclusively in Mandarin for fans in China. The new platform will be used to delivered tailored content to the league’s Chinese fanbase, including the latest news, interviews and notifications for starting line-ups, goal updates and links to live Chinese broadcasts.

The app will also host the first Mandarin data hub for Premier League stats – both individual players and clubs.

The app marks the latest move from the Premier League as it attempts to engage with the 307m football fans in China. Premier League managing director, Richard Masters, said: “There are millions of passionate Premier League club fans in China and we are always looking at new and exciting ways to engage them.”

Premier League clubs, themselves, know the commercial value that the Chinese market can have. Plenty of English sides have travelled to China in recent years to take part in pre-season tournaments, including: Arsenal, Man United and China.
