England took on Switzerland in an international friendly on Tuesday, at Leicester’s King Power Stadium. The game ended 1-0 courtesy of a Marcus Rashford goal in the second half. However, the match made history for other reasons. For the first time in nearly half a century the coverage was shown in black and white.
Sky Sports broadcast the first 25 seconds in black and white in recognition of the FA’s Kick It Out campaigns 25th anniversary. The campaign has been tackling racism and all form of discrimination in the game since 1993.
Lord Herman Ouseley, chair of Kick It Out, said: “We hope the footage will be a powerful reminder of how far football has come in the last 25 years to make the game a more open and diverse place - welcoming to all regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.”
