Arsenal’s shirt deal with Emirates is the most recognised Premier League sponsor among fans, according to data collected by Statista during a Europe-wide study. The Gunners £40m per-year deal with the Dubai-based airline generated 78% awareness among the 3,800 fans who took part in the study.

Arsenal and Emirates was also voted the most ‘fitting’, with 9 out of 10 fans approving of the sponsorship and the synergy between the two parties.

Southampton and Brighton both scored 75% awareness for their deals with Virgin Media and American Express, respectively. The Premier League clubs scored an average awareness of 34% among fans, the lower awareness levels are due to certain clubs’ infancy within the Premier League and therefore reduced coverage across Europe.

Alexander Kunst, a senior researcher at Statista, said: “It's clear that to create a successful partnership, it's important that both club and shirt sponsor consider how well their brand values match up.”
