Eleven Sports, the OTT sports streaming service, is considering closing its UK operation after it failed to secure a distribution deal with a pay-TV operator, as part of its exclusive UFC contract. After talks between Eleven Sports and Virgin Media broke down last month the UFC has triggered an exit clause in the contract.
The company are currently in negotiations to restructure its rights deals in a bid to retain the broadcasting rights to Serie A and La Liga. Eleven Sports, which was founded by Andrea Radrizzani, is looking “at a steep discount” to retain its online streaming rights.
In October the OTT provider came under fire for a breach of FA law, by broadcasting La Liga matches on Saturdays between 2:45pm and 5:15pm live in the UK. More on that story here.
