The 2018 EE Wembley Cup takes place on Sunday, with some of the biggest YouTube superstars teaming up with some of football’s greatest ever players in a revolutionary four-team tournament – including Robert Pires, David Trezeguet, Cafu and Michael Essien.
The EE Wembley Cup is the creation of YouTuber Spencer Owen (Spencer FC) and has grown significantly in its three-year existence. Last year the Wembley Cup was played in front of 34,000 fans with the 2018 version set to comfortably surpass that.
The YouTubers and EE have ripped up the rule book with a range of new concepts including a 30-minute game format, Man Down Time and sin bins to turn the traditional tournament on its head. These changes have been made to resonate better with the millions of subscribers these online celebrities have.
Fans of Hashtag United, The F2, Rebel FC and XO FC can purchase tickets to watch the tournament with £2 from every ticket being donated to Sport Relief. Or if you can’t make the match the game is available via a live stream on Spencer’s YouTube channel – last year’s live stream gained over 3m views.
