The January transfer window slammed shut for another year last night with Premier League clubs spending over £180m, with six clubs not bringing in new recruits. The biggest transfer was Chelsea’s deal for Christian Pulisic for £57.6m, however, the American will remain at Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season.
Arsenal secured Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona, with an option to buy in the summer. Whilst Top 4 rivals Manchester United and Tottenham failed to bring in any new players. At the other end of the table Newcastle United set a new club record, paying £21m for Atlanta United’s Miguel Almirón.
Despite not bringing any players in, Manchester United, sold Marouane Fellaini to Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng. The Belgian might not be the last player to move to China, as the CSL window does not close until late February, along with the Russian Premier League.
As always Twitter was a hotspot for transfer gossip and reactions, the hashtag #DeadlineDay was trending in the UK throughout the day.
