FIFA is proposing to reshape football by scrapping the current Club World Cup and Confederations Cup for the new Club World Cup. The plan, led by FIFA’s president Gianni Infantino, is for 24 teams from around the globe to compete every four years for almost $2bn. 12 of these team will be from Europe and will include the Premier League’s Liverpool and Manchester United.
However, the new concept is not convincing everyone. UEFA see the new format as a threat to their lucrative Champions League club tournament. Furthermore, representatives from the Premier League have expressed their concern regarding more fixtures being added to the calendar.
It’s been reported that a decision regarding the new Club World Cup will be made ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
