A press conference between UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, and European Club Association Chairman, Andrea Agnelli, confirmed that VAR could be used in the Champions League as soon as this year.

The executives suggested that UEFA might adopt the technology ahead of the proposed timeline. European football’s governing body had previously announced that VAR would be introduced for the 2019-20 season.

Ceferin said that he’s waiting for a final report from Roberto Rosetti, UEFA’s chief refereeing officer, to see when VAR can be implemented.

This announcement comes just a week after the Premier League confirmed that it will introduce video refereeing to the English top flight as of next season. More about the announcement here.
